Julian Norris

Candidate - Weston super Mare South Worle

#I have lived in Weston super Mare for 30 years and love not only the town but North Somerset as an area. Like many others who care about the place we live in, I have watched with dismay and horror the area decline in so many aspects.

Our town was once the ‘go to’ Somerset destination, sadly now, it is merely a point off the M5. With the Tropicana, Dolphin Square, Birnbeck Pier and so many shop units empty what is there to offer anyone wanting to come and visit?

We, the residents and voters of this once thriving, lively and welcoming town appear to be easy targets for North Somerset Councils pipe dreams. Dreams that are preventing the care of necessities such as: roads, policing, refuse collection along with their desire to separate us from as much hard earned cash and freedom as possible. Every questioned decision is met with the same generic party generated responses. I love this town and have become absolutely bemused and angry at the manner in which we are governed locally. I want to stand up on behalf on the local people and be counted. I know the residents of Weston super Mare are in despair at the political infighting and egotistical attitudes that are so prevalent within the Town Hall. Party politics is rapidly destroying local government, it has no place at local level community and unless we do something things will just stay the same.

I am a local businessman who owns a community convenience store located within 10 minutes walk of Weston super Mare’s town centre. We don’t just offer a service to our locals but to our community, we are also a hub where people regularly meet and chat. We are a small independent businesses that can so often offer more than just the products we are selling, but a friendly face and someone to talk to, especially for our older customers. We pride ourselves going that extra mile and providing that additional service to the local community. Due to our location we are surrounded by family owned bed and breakfast guest houses whose livelihoods are being destroyed by the lack of diverse facilities on offer, high parking costs and current policies imposed under this present regime.

I feel Independent Councillors are the way forward, with no hidden agendas policies can be discussed in the knowledge that the resolution will always be in the best interest of the community as a whole.

I believe wholeheartedly that when I and the other prospective Independent candidates who will be standing under the North Somerset First Independents umbrella are voted into office that we will make a difference. If we truly want Weston super Mare and its surrounding villages to change for the better then we must change those who make the decisions.
