Mike Solomon

Candidate - Hutton and Locking

I was born in Oxford Street, Weston super Mare and have lived here all my life except for a couple of brief periods where due to work commitments I worked overseas.

My father was one of the first Greek Cypriots to arrive in Weston-super-Mare, my mother was from Birmingham.  My parents owned several predominant local hotels and restaurants in and around the town which are still here today and play an integral part serving both the residents and visitors.

I have very fond memories of my childhood, spending many hours on the beach combing for treasure and bottles to return for the deposit. The Tropicana was a particular favourite of mine especially the aqua show.

So to say I am passionate about Weston and the surrounding area is an understatement! My wife has been equally captivated by the area and has spent the majority of her working life teaching in the local schools.

As a businessman who has a strong commercial background within IT for the past 35 years and currently Sales Director for an information company, I am realistic about what can and can’t be delivered, but if we don’t try and implement the changes required to make North Somerset a better place to live, work and visit, we will just be bypassed on the M5.

I now live in Bleadon and love being part of a rural community, I believe it is vital to keep the rural and village traditions alive, the people within these communities should have the freedom to be involved in what future developments take place. By giving them a voice will strengthen their community spirit.

I am an extremely motivated, enthusiastic individual with good people skills being able to integrate at all levels. I thrive on delivering results.  I want to see Weston super Mare and the surrounding villages have enough affordable housing, be a safer place to live with reduced crime rates and enhanced community cohesion for the young, old and those in need of support.

Over the years I have seen all the good and bad.  The only way to help make a difference now is roll up my shirtsleeves and get involved. I believe in doing, not just talking.

Together we can create a sustainable, vibrant place where future generations will want to both live, work and visit.
